The Centre for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR) is a research unit of the University of Costa Rica. It is committed to studying the structure, processes, and dynamics of marine and fresh water ecosystems, with the purpose of sharing knowledge and helping in the implementation of conservation measures and in the administration of resources, focussing on their sustainable use. Since its creation, CIMAR has contributed to the training of young scientists through the programmes that the Postgraduated Studies Systems coordinates. In the year 2002 we implemented the Postgraduate Programme on Management on Integrated Coastal Areas (GIACT) developed between CIMAR and the School of Biology of the University of Costa Rica.
