Netherlands Antilles Coral Reef Initiative

NACRI brings together a broad range of organizations and groups within the Netherlands Antilles: nature conservation organizations that manage the marine parks of the five islands, government agencies involved with nature conservation, research institutes, non-governmental pressure groups concerned about coral reefs, but also businesses that exist by grace of the coral reefs and their branch organizations, such as the Curaáao Dive Operators_ Association (CDOA) and the Bonairean Council of Underwater Resort Operators (CURO)., , Together, these organizations and institutions are committed , * to raise public awareness and mobilize the local population of the islands for the coral reefs;, * to support the Marine Protected Areas of the Netherlands Antilles; , * to improve regulations and legislation to protect the coral reefs, and enforce them;, * to prevent marine pollution from land-based sources and activities, especially that caused by wastewater and by coastal construction and development activities;, * to monitor the state of the reefs and coordinate monitoring programs on the different islands of the Netherlands Antilles;, * and to raise funding for projects to achieve the above.
