Reef Resilience Training in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

The second global workshop of CORAL's two-year reef resilience to climate change training and management program was a first-of-its-kind event. Reef resilience trainings have historically targeted only reef managers, but CORAL adapted this training's curriculum for a new audience—marine recreation providers.

Since marine recreation providers make trips to the reef daily, they sometimes detect subtle changes before a reef manager does. CORAL has expanded our training program to include these savvy professionals so that they will be able to detect early warning signs on the reef and respond to them effectively.

The participants in this pilot training, who hail from coral reef destinations throughout the Caribbean and Mesoamerica, will lead replication trainings this fall. Their trainings will target dive shops and other key marine recreation businesses in their home countries.
