"While conservation groups welcomed yesterday's announcement of extra marine reserves around Australia, the Greens say 18 Coral Sea reef systems remained unprotected.
Queensland Greens senator Larissa Waters questioned why the reefs were excluded from the Queensland marine park zone based on the Coral Sea.
Protection was guaranteed for Kenn and Mellish reefs in an early draft of the plan and, yesterday, the Osprey, Shark, Vema, Bougainville, and Marion reef systems were added."
