"MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) wants local government units (LGUs) surrounding the Danajon Double Barrier Reef to work to preserve the barrier reef and at the same time, join the meetings of the Danajon Bank Management Council.
"The Danajon Double Barrier Reef, located off northern Bohol, is the only one in the country and one of six worldwide, and is historically known as the seed of marine biodiversity in Central Visayas with its vast expanse of coral reefs, sea grasses and mangrove forests. Yet this valuable resource is in great peril due to destructive and unsustainable resource extraction," said Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo.
"To manage this resource, there is a need for a collective, determined, and sustainable action among 19 municipalities and cities within four provinces and two administrative regions that encompass this reef ecosystem," he added."
