Ship Illegally Dumped Garbage on Reef

"A ship's master could have dodged a fine for dumping garbage on the Great Barrier Reef if he'd done it 40 kilometres further out to sea.

The Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier Hope Star's log was inspected by Gladstone port authorities on July 6.

It was found the ship's crew had dumped food waste on the reef a week earlier."
