CORAL encourages businesses in the communities in which we work–primarily hotels, resorts, tour guides, and marine recreation providers–to adopt best practices for coral reefs. We also train local people to be part of our Coral Reef Leadership Network. These leaders help us conduct environmental “walk-throughs” of hotels and marine tourism providers. In the walk-throughs, we assess business operations and make recommendations about how to improve them in ways that help reefs–whether conserving water, changing guest behavior on reefs, or reducing pollution. For dive operators and other marine recreation providers, we also follow up with sustainable marine workshops that include detailed information about reef-friendly diving, snorkeling, and boating.
