Stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD), detected in Florida in 2014, spread rapidly across the wider Caribbean, impacting 26 jurisdictions by early 2023. In Roatan, Honduras, SCTLD was first observed in Flowers Bay in September 2020, prompting collaborative monitoring efforts. The disease affected at least 28 coral species across the Bay Islands, with Roatan and Utila experiencing the most severe impacts. Geographical patterns on Roatan suggest faster disease progression on the windward side, highlighting the need for further research into factors influencing SCTLD spread.
