It is about ensuring healthy, adaptive reefs that support long-term ocean vitality. In 2025, CORAL is leading this charge with innovative research and sustainable management practices to tackle the biggest threats to reefs. Here\u2019s what we\u2019ll accomplish together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ecosystem Restoration: <\/strong>In Hawai\u2018i, our team will ramp up essential projects and partnerships focused on watershed and fishpond restoration. WE will expand efforts to three new fishponds to restore and enhance the health of surrounding coral reefs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clean Water Threat Reduction: <\/strong>We are working to secure $1.9 million to fund wastewater management solutions in five new communities. This translates to us treating an additional 200 million gallons of wastewater each year(!!)\u2014protecting coral reefs and the people who rely on them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sustainable Fishing Threat Reduction: <\/strong>In 2025, we will advocate for the Mesoamerican Reef to be designated a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA). This would provide this biodiverse region with increased protections against shipping impacts and pollution, helping shield fisheries, local communities, and vital reef habitats.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/give.coral.org\/give\/513656\/#!\/donation\/checkout?c_src=EOY24-blog\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fund our Restoration Work &gt;<\/span><\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Guided by NOAA\u2019s definition of coral reef restoration as the &#8220;process of assisting the recovery of coral reefs that have been degraded, damaged, or destroyed,&#8221; our efforts focus on nurturing ecosystems back to health and resilience by reducing threats.
