This photo of several raccoon butterflyfish (Chaetodon lunula), was taken in Maui in 2017 by Dr. Michael Webster, CORAL's Executive Director. Butterflyfish are an essential component of coral reefs, and they rely on corals for their food and habitat. There are over 114 species of butterflyfish, and some species are used as "indicator species" to assess reef health due to their dependency on coral reefs.
