Dear Supporters
Because of you, the change we exist to create is taking root—not in theory, but in measurable outcomes across the reefs and communities we serve.
This year, we reduced pollution through targeted wastewater solutions, saw reef health trends stabilize in priority sites, advanced policy shifts to protect critical species and habitats, and supported community-led management as local leaders stepped fully into their roles as reef guardians. These outcomes are the result of four strategies working together—and of your belief that durable conservation is possible.
We are not simply launching projects; we are scaling solutions. Across our regional hubs, our wastewater improvement pipeline is stronger and more efficient than ever. In marine management, we are unlocking new potential in places like Dominica while continuing to strengthen systems in established sites. What excites us most is not the number of initiatives underway, but how much clearer and faster the pathway to implementation has become. Permitting processes are improving. Financing structures are maturing. Technical standards are shared and refined. More partners are joining our alliance. What once took years now takes months.
Together, these impacts show how we are creating cleaner water, stronger reefs, and a future where coral ecosystems—and the communities who depend on them—can thrive for generations to come.
Well-Managed Protected Areas
Fish can recover with protection.
Well-managed protected areas help fish grow and keep reefs healthy. By improving both existing and new protected areas, we ensure these sanctuaries are protected.

2
reef-positive policies influenced by CORAL in the Western Caribbean to protect key marine species for a healthy reef ecosystem (see below for more details)
4
fish spawning sites with increased protection across the Western Caribbean and Hawai‘i, supporting the species that coral reefs depend on for resilience and biodiversity
70%
increase in fish biomass before and after the fishing ban (April – July 2025) in Los Micos lagoon on the North Coast of Honduras
55,900
kilometers of ocean/coastline surveilled by patrol boats to ensure illegal fishing actions are prevented and stopped
2.2M
acres of marine area are actively managed in various stages from planning to implementation
In the Western Caribbean, the 2 policies included a seasonal fishing ban for three grouper species, all parrotfish, and surgeonfish in the Bay Islands National Marine Park (through the Technical Committee and DIGEPESCA), as well as protection from trawling in 10 key zones in Honduras, establishing a baseline for an artisanal fisheries corridor (through CORAL and DIGEPESCA).

Climate-Resilient Reef Networks
Tomorrow’s reefs depend on today’s vision.
Across the world, some reefs are already showing signs of adaptation: surviving heat waves, bouncing back from bleaching, and supporting life despite rising ocean temperatures. With the right tools, protection, and planning, we can help more reefs survive climate extremes—and ensure they are genetically diverse and continue to support communities for generations to come.

Land-Based Pollution
Clean water starts on land.
By stopping pollution before it reaches the ocean, we help reefs breathe easier and bounce back stronger.

50%
of sites in Roatan and Utila now meet international environmental standards for clean water overall—46.4% in Roatan and 60% in Utila
96%
reduction in fecal bacteria levels because of our community-led initiatives in the Western Caribbean
3,771
native plants installed, spanning 64 different species across Maui Nui
12,000
pounds of invasive gorilla ogo and 4.7 acres of mangrove removed from fishponds on the island of Molokai
13,597
cubic feet of invasive plants removed along riparian zones in Maui Nui
32M
gallons of sewage properly treated in Honduras
In addition to the impact numbers above, our Maui Nui team monitors 15 water quality parameters regularly at two sites on Maui and Molokai. They also held 38 community capacity building events and facilitated 20,782.6 hours of community volunteer time.

Expand Global Influence
Local impact, global reach.
We multiply our impact by connecting local and regional conservation to global platforms, policies, and industries. By driving action through our science and stories, we influence decision-makers, shift funding priorities, and build powerful alliances that protect coral reefs at scale.

Our global strategy is grounded in science that drives decisions—guiding where we prioritize, where reefs show the greatest potential for recovery, where wastewater infrastructure is most urgently needed, and where new laws or management actions can deliver lasting impact.
Across our regional hubs, we translate local lessons into global influence—reducing pollution, deepening our understanding of reef health trends, advancing critical policy shifts, and strengthening the long-term stewardship that reefs depend on.
Our Alliance
Better together.
At CORAL, our greatest strength is our alliances with fishers, scientists, indigenous leaders, tourism operators, governments, and peer organizations. Our name is our promise. We don’t do this alone.

13
communities partnered with CORAL to keep wastewater out of the ocean across the Western Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawai’i
77
key actors used CORAL data to influence critical conservation decisions in the Western Caribbean
153
partners worked together to further CORAL’s mission of saving the world’s coral reefs
Two integral pieces of our alliance are local communities and local partners—because durable reef protection must be led and sustained locally.
We focus on building the skills, systems, and leadership needed so conservation continues long after our direct involvement. This includes:
- Transitioning all responsibilities to local partners and helping establish long-term management structures
- Training and supporting community scientists
- Phasing out CORAL funding responsibly as local leadership and financing grow
Our role is to strengthen the local capacity of our anchor partners so reefs are protected for the long term. Our alliance includes 85 partners in the Western Caribbean, 47 in Hawaiʻi, and 20 supporting global science efforts.

Financials
Your Support is Making Waves
2025 was a pivotal year for CORAL – one that laid the groundwork for our next phase of growth and global impact. As we prepare to establish new CORAL Hubs across the world’s most critical reef regions, I am deeply inspired by the dedication of the CORAL team and profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of our donors. You make our alliance stronger, and your belief in this work is what makes our expansion possible.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend my sincere thanks for your partnership and generosity. Together, we closed the year with total revenue of $5.935 million, positioning CORAL for long-term success as we scale our conservation programs, strengthen regional leadership, and invest in the science and partnerships needed to protect reefs at the pace and scale the moment demands.
This progress is driven by a powerful community of individuals, foundations, and corporations who understand what’s at stake for coral reefs – and what’s possible when we work together. In 2025, 74% of our total expenses directly supported programs, advancing on-the-ground action to protect coral reefs and build resilience in the face of climate change.
In an unpredictable economic environment, maintaining financial stability while preparing for expansion is no small feat. We do so with confidence because of your steadfast commitment to coral reef conservation. Your support enables CORAL to be both bold and responsible – investing in growth while remaining operationally efficient and impact-driven.
We could not do this work without you. Thank you for helping set the stage for the next chapter of CORAL’s impact.

Thank you from the CORAL team
Because of your support, our model continues to deliver results through local leadership. Partners led major initiatives this year, from advancing national monitoring protocols to strengthening marine protected area management. In Hawaiʻi, coalitions expanded and new laws advanced. In multiple sites, work no longer relies on CORAL to move forward. Through targeted investments in partner capacity—financial operations support, social media training, and fundraising development—leadership, visibility, and sustainability are firmly rooted in local institutions.
You are helping us enable systems change, the often invisible work that accelerates everything else. We are shortening the time between recognizing a problem and implementing a solution. Financing has been unlocked. Governments are adopting monitoring frameworks and technical standards beyond CORAL sites. Coalitions are building shared work plans. Science is informing infrastructure decisions, shaping sediment thresholds in Hawaiʻi, guiding the Bay Islands Management Plan, and supporting the historic grouper ban. Data is not sitting on shelves—it is moving policy and investment.
You are helping us build conservation that outlasts us. Behind all of this is a strong and healthy organization—financially sound, strategically structured through regional hubs and global support services, and expanding partnerships into new regions eager to adopt our model.
You are reducing pollution before it reaches reefs.
You are advancing policies that protect fisheries and ecosystems.
You are strengthening local leaders who will carry this work forward.
You are accelerating solutions that can be replicated around the world.
Together, we are not simply protecting coral reefs. We are building systems that make protection easier, faster, and more enduring each year.
