An Intro from CORAL’s Conservation Program Director
Hello!
I am thrilled to introduce you to our Clean Water for Reefs Toolkit, a comprehensive resource designed to empower individuals and communities in the critical mission of protecting our planet’s coral reefs. As the Conservation Science Director at CORAL, it is my privilege and responsibility to share with you the knowledge, tools, and strategies necessary to mitigate one of the biggest threats reefs face today, untreated wastewater.
Coral reefs are vital hubs of biodiversity, supporting a quarter of all marine species despite occupying less than 1% of the ocean floor. They also support coastal communities reliant on tourism and fishing. However, they face unprecedented threats from climate change, overfishing, and pollution, with untreated wastewater emerging as one of the most insidious challenges.
Through this toolkit, we shed light on the detrimental effects of untreated wastewater pollution on coral reefs and inspire action at all levels. From understanding the sources and impacts of wastewater pollution to implementing practical solutions, our toolkit provides a roadmap for individuals, communities, and policymakers to become stewards of our oceans.
